Weight Management Treatment – Semaglutide

Semaglutide is a medication that helps support weight loss for adults who are overweight or have obesity when combined with diet and exercise. It works by helping control appetite, slow digestion, and improve how the body uses sugar for energy. Treatment is given as a once-weekly injection that can be used along with healthy eating and regular activity.

Common Reasons for Use

Difficulty losing weight through diet and exercise alone
Body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher
BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes

Possible Benefits

Helps support clinically meaningful weight loss when used with diet and exercise
May improve certain weight-related health markers
May help reduce appetite and overeating cues when used under medical supervision

How It’s Used

Given as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection (under the skin)
Dose is increased gradually according to a prescriber-directed schedule
Used together with a reduced-calorie eating plan and increased physical activity

Important Information

Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved. The FDA does not evaluate compounded medications for safety, effectiveness, or quality. This medication is not recommended for individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Patients should tell their healthcare provider if they have a history of pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, gastrointestinal disorders, or kidney problems. All prescriptions and dosing decisions must be reviewed and approved by a licensed medical provider to determine whether treatment is appropriate based on individual health needs.
